Why I believe in Creation

Why I believe in Creation! My short answer to this is, ‘Because I believe the Bible’!
You might say, that is not a very convincing answer, but it is true. To believe in ‘Creation’ you must first believe in the Bible. It is reported that Huxley, a confessed evolutionist, said, “It is clear that the doctrine of Evolution is directly antagonistic to that of creation, if evolution is consistently accepted, it makes it impossible to believe the Bible.” (i)

Let us consider this; we are able to trace the history of man through many generations to our present day with all its advanced knowledge so that it is a perfectly logical question to ask ‘where did man come from?’ Can science or evolution provide the answer? Psalm 139:14 addressing Jehovah says: ‘I am fearfully and wonderfully made, wonderful are thy works,’ – man was created by God.

To the question; why is there something rather than nothing? Stephen Hawking, a distinguish British physicist, is reported to have said, ‘Science cannot answer the question: why does the universe bother to exist? I don’t know the answer to that.’(ii) Not only does Genesis tell us that God created the heaven and the earth, but it also tells us he created it for man’s habitation. Herein lies a major problem for evolution and its theory of chance as opposed to a designed creation.

This universe, and the consistent laws of nature, is amazingly and precisely suited to allow life to exist on this planet. Again in Stephen Hawking’s opinion, ‘It would be difficult to explain why the universe should have begun in this way, except as the act of a God who intended to create beings like us.’(iii)

The Bible says; through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (Hebrews 11:1) This simply means matter does not evolve from matter.
This leaves us with two belief systems – belief in ‘chance’ or belief in ‘creation’ I believe in creation because I believe the Bible and the Bible is believable.

Evolution believes in what is called ‘spontaneous generation’ that by chance two lifeless chemicals floating in water made contact, and somehow there was a wriggle and the first living organism evolved. But just a minute, how can something evolve from nothing? Richard Dawkins, a modern day scientists and atheist said, ‘Man is a survival machine, a robot vehicle blindly programmed to preserve the selfish molecules known as genes’. (iv) But science, to the contrary, cannot explain why man does everything to love, cherish and support the weakest above the strongest. There is only one answer to this – God made man in his own likeness and image. Evolution is a human invention of man who does not want to acknowledge God and be accountable to God.

Creation on the other hand believes that all matter was created by God and since life is so complex it required an intelligent designer to create it. That Creator is God who is holy, infinite and loving. The Gospel of John, 1:3 says ‘All things were made by him (God) and without him was not anything made that was made.’ In Holy Scripture we have the only reliable revealed account of the true origin of things.

In the Bible God has spoken to man, it is not a case that man discovered God, but the truth is, God has revealed himself to man in two ways:

(1) In Creation, Psalm 19:1 ‘ the heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork’. In the book Job 26.7 the ancient writer wrote; ‘God hangeth the earth upon nothing’ God enlightened him that the world revolves in space never deviating from its course. He then said of this wonder of creation, ‘Lo, these are parts of his ways; but how little a portion is heard of him’ Why does man want to put God out of his mind, the answer is because ‘all have sinned and come short of the glory of God’ Romans 3:23.

(2) In redemption, God has revealed himself to man in salvation; ‘the holy Scriptures are able to make one wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus’ 2 Timothy 3:15

God is speaking to us, today; we have the witness of God’s greatness in creation and the witness of God’s grace and love in salvation offered in the gospel message to those who accept, personally by faith Jesus Christ as their saviour.

‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16. Is this true of you; are you one who believes in him?
